After the success of Star Magic’s recently concluded charity and fundraising events, Piolo Pascual led the turnover of proceeds to their beneficiaries and announced that this will now be a yearly tradition among his fellow Star Magic artists.

Star Magic held three events which benefited various organizations such as Cancer Warriors, Cottolengo Filipino Inc., Elsie Gaches Village, Reception and Study Center for Children, Sanctuary Center, and the ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundation.

Piolo led the benefit concert “A Night to Give Back” on Nov. 20 at Zirkoh Morato, which was participated in pro bono by Star Magic artists. Gerald Anderson was also in the forefront of an all-star charity basketball tournament at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Nov. 13. The culminating event was a feeding program for undernourished children in Teresa Heights, Quezon City on Dec. 2, which was attended by Piolo, Sam Milby, Julia Montes and others.

‘Not a one-shot thing’

“This is not a one-shot thing. What we want to do is to be able to give back to the community every year through your support,” Piolo said, citing handicapped and disadvantaged children as the main beneficiaries of their charity work. Piolo spoke at a turnover ceremony held at the ABS-CBN compound on Dec. 8.

Star Magic’s benefit concert included Sam Milby, Yeng Constantino, Matteo Guidicelli, Xian Lim, Jed Madela, JM de Guzman, Richard Poon, Rayver Cruz, Sam Concepcion, Markki Stroem, Jovit Baldivino, Bugoy Drilon, Liezel Garcia, Marcelito Pomoy, Young JV, Guji Lorenzana, Van Roxas and Pierro, Star Power finalists Akiko, Monica and Krissel, and Tippi dos Santos.

Piolo was initially worried about pulling off the concert but was surprised by the turnout and the number of artists who wanted to donate their time and talent.  Despite his busy schedule, Piolo actively participated in all the events.

Giving back

“It was a special night because all of the artists that performed—they had no charge, no talent fee, they just came to perform. This was the first time that we did an outreach concert. It’s nice to do something for the community and since we’re an arm of ABS-CBN, we thought of giving back,” he said.

The turnover ceremony which was hosted by Megan Young and Nikki Valdez was attended by Star Magic head Johnny Manahan and other Star Magic artists such as Sam Milby, Julia Montes,  Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Martin del Rosario and Joem Bascon.
