Monique Wilson admits she’s gay
Theater actress Monique Wilson publicly admitted she’s a gay woman.
The former “Miss Saigon” actress made the announcement during a press conference held Friday, November 23, as reported by GMA-7’s news program “24 Oras.”
“The reason why I decided to come out was… because every time I come back home here, I realize I was doing so much, tapos the young gay people here are getting so marginalized and so discriminated against. And there’s so much violence going on against them,” she said.
Monique added that “being a gay woman is something that I should be proud of being.”
The 42-year-old theater and movie actress is known for playing Kim in the West End production of “Miss Saigon” in London. She was also part of the local production of shows such as “Rent” and “The Vagina Monologues,” among others.
Monique also topbills Resorts World Manila’s ongoing musical “The King and I” with Leo Valdez.
Reactions to Monique’s announcement have been positive so far.
“Go Monique Wilson! We support u all the way! Much love!” posted television personality Divine Lee on Twitter.
Monique’s fans have also expressed their support for her via social media.
