Caviteño singer named 'Pilipinas Got Talent' grand champion

ABS-CBN’s “Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2” declared Marcelito Pomoy grand champion last night at the Big Dome, where he bested 13 other finalists in a showdown of singing, dancing and other talents.

Pomoy impressed the show’s resident judges Kris Aquino, Ai-Ai Delas Alas, and Freddie M. Garcia and the thousands of Filipinos who voted for him.

Marcelito also won on the strength of audience votes via text and online poll.

The pride of Cavite won P2 million plus other prizes from sponsors. Marcelito wowed the audience with his performance of "The Prayer" by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Marcelito earned a standing ovation In singing both the female and male parts of the song.

From the first round, Marcelito  already gained a big following and  even became a YouTube sensation for getting a big number of hits with his performance of Regine Velasquez’s ‘On The Wings of Love.’

The grand champion was surprised at his victory, especially since the runner-ups and other contenders have big fanbases.

“Sobrang saya ko po at hindi ko po akalain na ako ang mananalo,” Marcelito said.

Thanking his family and friends, supporters from his hometown and others who voted for him, Marcelito also gave a message to his parents.

 “Sana magkasundo na po kayo. Sana mapatawad natin ang isa’t isa kase tao lang po tayo,” he  said.

Second runner-up Happy Feet, composed of tap-dancing brothers from Bukidnon, touched many viewers and even the judges with their heartwarming story as brothers who struggled together. Many, including Ai-Ai,   became teary-eyed when the brothers gave  their farewell speech onstage, including A-Ai.

Third placer Freestylers from Laguna also gave a good impression, with dance stunts and somersaults.

Marcelito garnered 19.56%, Happy Feet got 18.32% and Freestylers took 9.46% of the total votes.

Singing acts, dancers and other performing artists showcased their talents and entertained the audience, thus giving the voters a hard time in making up their mind.

Jem Cubil of Cebu, dubbed as the singing heartthrob, sang Bryan Adams's "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?". The Madrigal Siblings of Rizal performed "Bayan Ko" and "Magkaisa." The DJP Trio of Negros Occidental did a cover of Vernie Varga’s "You’ll Always Be My Number One." Young balladeer John Michael Narag of Pangasinan swooned the audiences with Martin Nievera’s "Kahit Isang Saglit."  Buildex Pagales of Davao performed Bruno Mars's "Lazy Song." Skeights of Davao City performed Rivermaya’s "Liwanag sa Dilim."
 
Other dance group contenders include B4 of Baguio City, Filogram also from Baguio City, and the duo Leoniel Enopia and Elizabeth Dazo of Bacolod. Rico the Magician of Caloocan City impressed viewers with his magic tricks, while Angel Calasas of Cainta showed her talent in a hula-hoop exhibition.

The show was hosted by Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford.

Jovit Baldivino, the first season’s grand champion, also performed and gave way for the second season’s new winner. 

Meanwhile, Gary Valenciano, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gab Valenciano, Jhong Hilario, John Prats, Rayver Cruz and Aiza Seguerra performed with the  finalists.

Before the final result was revealed, Kris said that whoever wins ‘Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2’ is the one who captured the hearts of the country. “Ito ngayon, kung ano po ang mangyayari tonight, ito talaga yung hinusga at binoto ng bayan,” Kris said. Viewers will see more of Marcelito and other finalists in upcoming shows and concerts.
