K-Pop girl group Secret channels Betty Boop in new release
Korean girl group Secret, known for its unique ability to take retro music and make it their own, has reached into its bag of tricks and come up with a new concept that is both retro and fresh, releasing an MV teaser for its new single, "Love is MOVE," that takes elements of early 1930s swing music to come up with a song that is both classic yet trendy. "Love is MOVE" is the carrier single of their first full album "Moving in Secret," which releases on October 18 on digital and physical format, alongside the MV for the carrier single of "Love of MOVE."
After its #1 2011 hit, "Shy Boy," which took a page from the classic 50s sound (the MV came complete with the classic American diner feel), and its follow-up single, "Starlight Moonlight," which incorporated elements of Korean folk-pop, "Love is MOVE" promises to be an updated pop-rock dance-floor romp for Secret not unlike its previous hits "Madonna" and "Magic."
The same brassy horns that made those two hits such radio-friendly blockbusters are back; over the irresistible guitar work and hypnotic drumbeats is the anthemic "Come on!" hook of "Love is MOVE," and whatever fears Secret fans may have had with their girl group going up against other girl groups may be put to rest. "Love is MOVE" will definitely put up a good fight.
The concept for the MV teaser is inspired by popular cartoon character Betty Boop, whose classic hourglass figure, adorable face with emotive eyes, and rather suggestive sexuality made her a star in the 1930s. "She is a feminist icon because she can speak her mind while remaining feminine and charming," TS Entertainment revealed, "and she inspires the confident image Secret is expressing in this concept." With dancing men in suits, bright lights and carnival-esque atmosphere, and Hyosung, Jieun, Sunhwa, and Zinger showing off their charms to full effect, 2011 may very well really be Secret time!
