Kyuhyun’s EP, Love Story, is the final leg in his four seasons project titled Project: Gye (Korean for seasons).

Released on 25 January, the EP features a total of six tracks, including the titular song and previously released singles Coffee, Together, Daystar, Dreaming, and Moving On.

“Love Story is a song perfectly harmonised with a lyrical melody and my sweet vocals to express the deep emotions of longing for an old lover,” Kyuhyun described during an online press conference.

“It speaks of the realisation of the ordinary daily life being true love as found through old love stories. As I was listening to this track, I realised I wanted to finish this seasonal project with it because it’s the perfect track to make an ending with,” Kyuhyun added.

The four seasons project started in the summer of 2020 with the single Dreaming, followed by the single Daystar in autumn. Subsequently in 2021, they were joined by the winter single Moving On, the spring single Coffee, and the summer single Together.

“I wanted to have tracks that went with all four seasons by creating a refreshing summer track, a ballad in the fall, and a soft breezy spring song. It was very rewarding to see these releases add up to create this album Love Story, and I was able to reminisce on the past year and a half when I saw the final product,” Kyuhyun said.

As the EP holds memories of each song, which has their own music videos, Kyuhyun found the EP very meaningful and hoped it would be just as meaningful for his fans.

He added, “Love Story is a track with a sentimentality that I always aspire for. It’s one that suits perfectly with the fall and winter, which are my favourite seasons. All of my past releases including Love Story are gifts of songs that express the atmosphere of each season. Through this four seasons project, I’d like for everyone to enjoy all four seasons while listening to my music.”

Back in 2006, Kyuhyun made his singing debut as a new member of the K-pop boy band Super Junior. He later began his solo career in 2014 with the EP At Gwanghwamun, making him the first Super Junior member to debut as a solo artist.

Regarding how his thoughts about being a singer have changed compared to when he first started, Kyuhyun reflected, “Honestly speaking, it has changed significantly. If I first started off with the simple desire of becoming a singer since I liked to sing, now I’m thinking about how to compose better tracks and sympathise with people through my music. It’s a different mindset than before, and I feel like I've matured as a professional which feels a bit different from when it was just pure passion for music.”
