Editors' Picks are the Fashionista team's true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all. Any beauty product you see here has been vetted and tested by the editor recommending it.

Antioxidants are revered in skin care for their protective, complexion-bolstering properties. They deflect and correct damage from environmental aggressors, pollution and the sun. Vitamin C is most often pointed to as the gold standard. (With good reason: It's highly effective for brightening, evening and glow-ifying skin.) However, it doesn't work for everyone — there are some skin types that don't tolerate it well, like those that deal with sensitivity or rosacea. I fall into the latter category.

While I do incorporate the ingredient into my routine sometimes, during periods when my skin is feeling particularly sensitized and experiencing flare-ups, I find that avoiding it is the best way to calm things down. But the idea of going antioxidant-free simply won't fly with this beauty editor — especially since I live in New York City and have a heightened awareness of just how many environmental aggressors my skin has to contend with each day. So, I've been turning to Jordan Samuel's vitamin C-free Antioxidant Treatment Emulsion instead, and I'm seriously impressed.

The creamsicle-colored, medium-weight "emulsion" (thicker than a standard serum, thinner than a cream) packs niacinamide, resveratrol (a polyphenol that can help with wound healing and skin regeneration), astaxanthin (an antioxidant that's been shown to be more powerful than vitamin C) and peptides for a treatment that's protective and restorative. It can be used morning and evening, and layers well with other products (no pilling whatsoever). No shade to vitamin C serums, but this is going to be my go-to antioxidant skin-care step for the foreseeable future.
