Sun Nan honoured with President's Merit Award

18 Feb - Chinese singer Sun Nan became the first Chinese artiste to be honoured with the Recording Academy President's Merit Award by the Grammy.

As reported on Mingpao News, the singer reportedly received the award for his major achievements in the field of music, putting him in the same ranks of other stars who have won the award in the past, including The Beatles and Whitney Houston.

Sun Nan, who attended the event in Los Angeles, stated that although he has accepted a lot of awards for the past 20 years, he is excited with the Merit Award, especially since he is the first Chinese singer to win it.

Sun thanked the China Recording Association and the Recording Academy's judges, saying that the honour belongs to music, and that he was just a representative.

According to Grammy.com, this marks "the successful partnership between The Recording Academy and the China Recording Association to build an effective channel for Sino-U.S. cultural exchange".
