Strictly's Ellie and Vito explain how they chose their finale dance

Mild Strictly Come Dancing spoilers follow.

Strictly Come Dancing stars Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola have explained the reason behind their favourite dance choice for the upcoming finale.

Appearing on tonight's (December 13) episode of Strictly: It Takes Two, the pair told host Janette Manrara why they'd chosen their American Smooth to Robbie Williams's 'Ain't That a Kick in the Head' from week seven as one of their routines in their bid to secure the Glitterball trophy.

Asked by Janette why the dance was particularly special, Coronation Street actress Ellie explained: "It just felt so beautiful to perform. It felt glamorous and grand, and it felt [like] that's what Strictly is all about."

She continued: "I just felt like I was really into the character... I was like, 'Oh, I feel glam; I feel a million dollars'. I literally loved it."

Ellie and Vito's first performance of the dance saw them top week seven's leaderboard with a score of 39 — with Craig Revel Horwood being the only judge not to award them a full 10 points.

Addressing Craig's criticism from the original performance — which saw the judge tell the pair their dance was missing a "heel lead" — Ellie and Vito added that it was the first thing they focused on during rehearsals.

"The heel lead was the first thing we spoke about," Ellie said, while Vito joked that the routine is now known to the pair as "the Heel Dance".

"The Heel Smooth," Janette quipped.

Alongside the American Smooth, the pair will perform their Paso Doble to 'Insomnia' by 2WEI for the judges' pick and a show dance to a Jennifer Lopez megamix during the Strictly finale.

When Janette asked Ellie how it felt to be part of the first couple to go through to the finale, the actress revealed that she had been "so shocked" to make it through.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
