Stranger Things Season 2 Would Explore 'Bigger Mythology'
The end of Stranger Things was only the beginning.
At the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday, Matt and Ross Duffer (aka the Duffer Brothers) — the creators behind Netflix’s eight-episode nostalgia trip — told reporters that a potential second season would delve into “bigger mythology” behind Will’s disappearance. “There are definitely a lot of cliffhanger-y threads at the end [of the Season 1 finale],” explained Matt. “It’s open-ended in a way that if people wanted it, and Netflix wanted it, we could explore it and continue the storyline.”
Ross, meanwhile, insisted that there is a grand plan for the series, one that includes a satisfying resolution to all of the key questions raised in Season 1. “We have answers,” he assured.
So… where does Season 2 stand? Prior to the Stranger Things panel, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos hedged when asked about the series’ future. “We’re letting the show breathe,” he said. “We always want to take some time [and] be thoughtful about the process.”
