Stop what you’re doing, here are two brand new songs from the “Anastasia” musical

Have you heard…that Anastasia is becoming a Broadway musical? You’ve probably heard about it over the last few months, if only because since learning that our favorite amnesiac princesses is jumping to the Great White Way, we’ve been belting out our favorite Anastasia songs for anyone who will listen. It’s been a fun few months.

While this new Broadway production will mirror the OG 1997 animated movie we know and love dearly, the story is getting a lil’ update for the stage. The musical will still feature many of the same songs (hello, “Journey to the Past”) but a few brand new songs will be added in, too.

You mean that soon they’ll be NEW Anastasia songs to learn? HELL YES.

Earlier today, Anastasia held a small showcase to share a few of these new songs, and without a doubt, these will be the best songs you listen to all day.

The first new song, “In My Dreams,” is sung by none other than Anya herself, played by Christy Altomare. Since this is a new song, it’s hard to tell exactly where it’s going to fit into the musical — but judging from the lyrics, it sure sounds like a perfect companion to “Journey to the Past.”

Another new song is a Dimitri song, because let’s be real, Dimitri doesn’t sing NEARLY enough in the animated classic. Stepping into the (tbh, dreamboat) role is Derek Klena. This new song, “My Petersburg,” has Dimitri reflecting on his time in the city, and how it shaped him into who he is today. It’s also probably from the beginning of the musical, since you know, the story starts in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Do you have chills? We’ve got close to a thousand chills right now, and plan to listen to these songs on repeat for the rest of the day. And considering how these short snippets make us feel, just IMAGINE the emotions that will come with the full cast recording — and seeing the show on Broadway, too.

Anastasia starts previews on March 23rd. See you in St. Petersburg.
