Steve Yuen turns wife Karena Lam ugly for new movie
17 Jun – Filmmaker Steve Yuen Kim Wai admitted that he was the one who had wanted to make his wife Karena Lam ugly for the new film, "Declared Legally Dead".
As reported on Mingpao, Steve who directed his wife into playing a middle-aged woman with amblyopia in the said film, shared that there was no pressure working with his wife and praised the actress for her wonderful performance.
"She likes to be tortured by me," he said with a laugh when mentioned that he has turned his wife ugly for the movie.
Responding to the statement, Karena smiled and said, "My husband wanted to shatter the beautiful image of me as a mother and wife, and felt that I could only grow this way."
Karena also added that she was very nervous the first time she came to the set, especially knowing that she would be performing with the likes of award-winning actor Anthony Wong.
Steve stated that Karena and Anthony really made a great cooperation that sometimes his wife forgot to stop acting.
The actress agreed, adding that in one scene she had to hit Anthony with her handbag and forgot about the thermos she kept inside.
"I kept hitting him with the bag and heard a sound. But the director didn't yell cut, so I kept doing it. Afterwards, I saw Anthony hiding in the corner rubbing his head in pain," she said.
