Steve Wong: Beyond reunion concert is impossible
19 May - "It's impossible," said former Beyond bassist, Steve Wong, when asked about the band's possible reunion.
As reported on Mingpao News, previously, it was rumoured that Steve will be reunited with drummer Yip Sai Wing and lead guitarist Paul Wong to perform at a charity concert commemorating their vocalist [and Steve's brother] Wong Ka Kui's death.
However, Steve, who attended a Metro radio programme on 18 May, stated that there is no chance of them working together, especially with the conflict between him and the remaining two members.
Last year, the trio butted heads when Beyond's former manager Leslie Chan and Paul's fans accused Steve of cashing in on the memory of his brother.
Steve later posted a statement on his Weibo account before quitting the social media platform, and stated that the real reason for the band breaking up back in 2005 was because Paul Wong felt that he deserved more pay than the others.
"As early as in 1999, when we wanted to disband, I thought that as long as there is one person to continue, Beyond will be able to keep going. But I can't decide things on my own, and when it developed into a conflict, I can't accept it anymore."
Steve stated that Wong Ka Kui seemed to have taken Beyond with him when he died back in 1993 after a tragic accident while filming a show in Tokyo.
"With Ka Kui no longer around, a reunion will not be as interesting. I hope fans can respect our decisions. Though Beyond has disbanded, I hope you will continue to support our music," he said.
