Stephen Chow: Wang Baoqiang is not the new Wan Tin Sau
22 Jan – Stephen Chow has denied the idea that Chinese actor Wang Baoqiang is playing Wan Tin Sau in "The New King of Comedy".
As reported on Mingpao, the filmmaker, who appeared at the promotional event of the new movie in Beijing recently, shared that Wan's role in the movie has nothing to do with his previous character.
It is noted that Stephen played the aspiring actor turned acting coach Wan Tin Sau in the original 1999 film.
"There will be new surprises in the movie. After 20 years, the ending will have an enormous change," he said.
As to why Wang is in the movie, Stephen said that the story of the film is in the same direction of the original 1999 film, which meant that he needed a big star for it.
He also expressed hope that the movie can bring people encouragement and motivation.
"The New King of Comedy" will be released on Lunar New Year.
