Start 2025 right with these things to do in Jan
As the NYE festivities are ramping up, we are all looking forward to the new year. Many forward-thinking folks are starting to look ahead and plan their schedules with things to do in Jan 2025.
Just because the holiday season is over doesn’t mean the fun stops there. Enjoy a month full of artistic showcases, exhibitions and activities with your loved ones.
1. Singapore Fringe Festival
Let’s begin with a celebration of theatre from around the world. The Singapore Fringe Festival is back from 8 to 19 Jan 2025 with performances by local and international theatre companies.
This year’s theme of ‘displacement’ is explored from multiple angles, giving audiences a holistic view of what it can look like and what it means to different people.
There will be 7 performances to indulge in, featuring theatre companies from Singapore, India, South Africa and Australia. All of these performances will explore the central theme in all its forms: distortion, dislocation, disruption and much more.
The stories explore how displacement causes those affected to lose power and agency. Beyond that, they also explore the deeper conflict that occurs when there is a disruption in our lives. It helps you reflect on displacement and its effects on the human psyche.
Tickets start at S$30.40. Terms and conditions apply.

2. The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber
For one weekend only, enjoy the iconic works of musical theatre legend Andrew Lloyd Webber at this Symphonic Gala Concert. The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber is a celebration of the great composer’s legacy and highlights all the stories he has contributed to over the years.
Modern auteurs like Lin-Manuel Miranda, writer and composer of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton”, look to Webber as an influence.
For the uninitiated, Webber composed the score for famous musicals like “The Phantom of the Opera” and “CATS”. Yes, that CATS. Trust me, the movie adaptation did not do the musical justice.
The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber treats audiences to special appearances by Josh Piterman and Amy Manford, who are known for their roles in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End. Their powerhouse vocals, along with a live orchestra conducted by Jessica Gethin, guarantee a wonderful evening full of wonder and spectacle.
Tickets start at S$68. Terms and conditions apply.

4. Singapore Art Week
Singapore Art Week, abbreviated as SAW, is the annual arts celebration for the nation. It is a time when art exhibitions and installations come to life all across the country. This year, SAW will be featuring over 130 arts events.
In Singapore, there is a distinct lack of understanding and appreciation of the arts scene. This annual event allows the local artists and curators to thrive and collaborate with respected international talent. It also provides those outside the industry a breath of fresh air from the confines of everyday Singaporean life.
This year’s line-up features works from renowned international artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pratchaya Phinthong. Discover art through its various forms, including performance art, exhibitions and tours.
At the end of the night, enjoy the gorgeous light installations that will be projected over local landmarks. (Read on to find out more about these light installations!)
Most exhibitions are free, with some exclusive ticketed events. Terms and conditions apply.

Now, it’s time for the event that graces everyone’s Instagram feeds annually.
This year marks the 9th edition of the Light to Night Festival, with over 70 programmes to be held at the National Gallery and the nearby Civic District.
The main attraction is a massive projection mapping showcase that will stretch across iconic landmarks like the National Gallery and The Asian Civilisations Museum.
With the National Gallery being the staple of this festival, it will feature the works of 3 celebrated local artists: late printmaker Chng Seok Tin, painter Goh Beng Kwan and the late batik artist Jaafar Latiff.
Other than the fabulous light show, enjoy live performances and immersive experiences as well as different free and ticketed art exhibitions. If you need a break, get some grub at the Art X Social: Festival Street and chill with some friends. Don’t worry, there will be tables.

8. Candlelight: Best of Bridgerton on Strings
The Candlelight: Best of Bridgerton on Strings is the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires, as Anthony Bridgerton would put it.
Candlelight never fails to bring a new unique flavour to the traditional orchestra experience. Mix that with the iconic soundtrack from Netflix’s Bridgerton and it promises to be a truly romantic night out.
Bridgerton is famous for its classical riffs on modern songs. For Season 3 alone, they did covers of hits like “You Belong with Me” by Taylor Swift and a stripped version of Coldplay’s “Yellow”. Truly, they are masters at marrying the old and the modern.
Some of these songs have even become staple TikTok audios.
Just listen to the stripped version of “Give Me Everything” from Bridgerton Season 3 on Spotify. You’ll recognise it for sure.
While waiting for Benedict and Sophie’s story in Season 4, why not relive some of the greatest hits from the soundtrack over the last 3 seasons?
