Stars to gather at Roman Tam's memorial concert
24 Oct – It was revealed that a memorial charity concert will be held to commemorate the 70th birthday and 14th year of passing of late singer, Roman Tam.
As reported on HK Top Ten News, a press conference was recently held to announce the concert, where it was revealed that the profit from the sales will be donated to "Hepatitis Free" charity.
One of the concert organisers is Wing Yiu Entertainment, formerly managed by the recently deceased Father of Concert, Cheung Yiu Wing.
According to Cheung Lai Fong, the daughter of Cheung Yiu Wing who is now managing the business, her father has always wanted to organise a memorial concert for Roman, but had not been able to do so.
"I am now completing his wish," said Lai Fong, though added that she is sad that the company's name cannot be used in promotional activities.
Lai Fong, who hails from Cheung's second family, stated that they are still involved in a court case against her half brother, who has filed for the company's bankruptcy.
Meanwhile, Roman Tam's protégé, Joey Yung, revealed that she will be auctioning a brooch that was given by her mentor a few years ago. "Although I would miss it, I hope it will be able to help more people. Since this is for Hepatitis Free and Roman had always wanted to find a cure for it, I hope it will make this priceless item even more valuable."
The charity memorial concert will be held on 19 December at the Wanchai Convention Centre.
Godfather of Cantopop Roman Tam died in Hong Kong on October 2002 after suffering from liver cancer. He was 57.
