The following contains mild spoilers!

One of the (admittedly many) questions fans had after the film’s credits began to roll was that regarding the appearance of the iconic robot C-3PO.

The backstory for 3PO between ‘Jedi’ and ‘The Force Awakens’ isn’t explained, as we’re introduced to the gold-plated hero midway through the movie. Hoever, fans will instantly have noticed the addition of a red arm, and the character himself references it when re-introducing himself to Han Solo and Chewbacca.

A page of C-3PO’s companion book has recently been leaked online which clears up why he’s so sheepish abut explaining the new coloured limb.

‘C-3PO is uncharacteristically quiet when it comes to discussing his salvaged arm; it is a memento of another droid’s sacrifice,’ reads the details. Interesting.

It implies we’re likely to get some more of the droid’s adventures as the next two films unfold, which is typical for a ‘Star Wars’ film to tease with snippets before unravelling mysteries years after in sequels.

Its director J.J. Abrams has previously said he wanted the famous droid to look different to the original trilogy to illustrate the passage of time, but fans won’t necessarily have to wait until ‘Episode VIII’ because there’s a comic in the works that’ll reveal how he came to be in possession of the red arm, who was its previous owner and the story behind it.
