Star Wars: The Force Awakens Britain’s Biggest Box Office Hit Ever

You didn’t have to be strong with the Force to have seen this one coming. Barely three weeks after release, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is now the biggest hit in history at the UK box office.

This news comes just days after the film became the second film ever to break the £100 million mark in British cinemas, after ‘Skyfall’ - and now it has officially overtaken the 23rd James Bond movie’s final haul of £103.2 million.

All this on top of the seventh ‘Star Wars’ movie recently dethroning ‘Avatar’ as the all-time number 1 in US box office history, and blasting through the existing record of ‘The Avengers’ to become the 4th biggest all-time box office hit worldwide - and it’s surely a question of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ it speeds past current 3rd place holder ‘Jurassic World.’

However, with a current haul of approx £1.1 billion worldwide, it’s still some way off beating the top two: ‘Titanic’ (approx £1.51 billion) and ‘Avatar’ (approx £1.92 billion). And, as previously reported, that’s not taking into account inflation.

Even so, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has grown more powerful than some of us could have possibly imagined…

Director JJ Abrams’ blockbuster also earned four BAFTA award nominations this week, for Original Music, Production Design, Sound and Special Visual Effects.
