‘Star Wars’ Nerd Stephen Colbert Offers His ‘The Force Awakens’ Fan Theory
Every Star Wars fan has his or her own theory about what will happen in The Force Awakens, and uber-nerd Stephen Colbert is no different.
The host of the Late Show and noted Star Wars super-fan spent a solid week studying the trailer that came out last Monday night, and after careful consideration, revealed his own theory about what happens in J.J. Abrams’ new film.
“The dark and mysterious First Order has stepped into the power vacuum left by the Empire and the newly named Resistance fights in place of the Rebel Alliance, which has begun a tragic shift to the Dark Side,” the host suggested. “But John Boyega’s character is in a Stormtrooper suit, so it follows that the new new hope comes from the very enemy we’ve been trained to hate.”
Colbert is actually good friends with Abrams, though he swears he has no inside knowledge. Still, it’s interesting that he appears to be suggesting a major shift in allegiances in the new movie — something that almost sounds in line with recent fan theories that Luke Skywalker might be turning to the dark side of the Force.
After explaining the nature of the Force to newbies, Colbert continued his prediction in grand fashion.
“I predict that dark becomes light, light becomes dark, the very fabric of the force is stretched to its limit, as a new generation emerges to tear down the false distinctions of the past and unite all of us,” he proclaimed, “old and new, moisture farmers and nerf-herders, star and wars, once and for all, bringing peace to the galaxy.”
Who knows if he’s right, but you can’t accuse him of not knowing his stuff: Last year, he give a detailed explanation of how Kylo Ren’s cross-guard lightsaber would work, so the guy clearly thinks about this stuff a whole lot.
