When talking about international cuisine, Western dishes often come to mind. But are you familiar with Sri Lankan food? If not, you should definitely head over to Petaling Jaya and visit Umac House.

Umac House - Store front

The eatery is tucked away in a vintage 1970s bungalow, adding to its mysterious charm. The entire place radiates a homely vibe, retaining much of its original character— all my stress melts away with such a cosy setting. However, parking may be tricky since it’s a house compound.

Umac House - Sri Lankan Lamparis

If you’ve checked out their Google reviews, you’ve likely seen rave endorsements for the Sri Lankan Lamparis (RM32.90). The dish is served in a banana leaf parcel and comes with sides such as spicy eggplant pickle, masi sambal, coconut belacan, vegetables paalkari, boiled egg, fish cutlet, chicken masala, and mutton paalkari.

Umac House - Sri Lankan Briyani (mutton) & Keema Thosai

Another highly endorsed dish is the Sri Lankan Briyani, available with your choice of vegetables (RM15), chicken (RM18), mutton (RM20), or seafood (RM25). This slow-cooked delicacy features aromatic basmati rice paired with tender chicken, and is served with raita, spicy onion, pudina chutney (mint chutney), and curry. The exotic spices will surely add a vibrant kick to your meal.
