This South Carolina Hotel Was Just Named the Best in the Country
While this year may not have been the best for travel, it doesn't mean that those who excelled in service prior to the pandemic will go unnoticed. Today, Tripadvisor released the winners of its 18th annual Travelers’ Choice Awards, shedding a light on the best in lodging, cuisine, transportation, and more for 2020 in the United States, and across the globe.
These winners were calculated based on the quality and quantity of customer reviews and ratings collected from Tripadvisor.com during 2019. With over 8.7 million businesses listed on the platform, these select winners stood out among leading hospitality titians.

#1 Hotel in the United States: French Quarter Inn
For the second year in a row, The French Quarter Inn located in Charleston, South Carolina has been ranked #1. This intimate boutique hotel "captivates guests with an experience akin to visiting the gracious Charleston home of a charming Southern friend," according to its website. Upon arrival, all guests are welcomed with champagne. In the evenings, there is a complimentary turndown service topped off with warm cookies and milk.
#1 Restaurant in the United States: The French Laundry
Thomas Keller's Yountville, California dining establishment serves up a new menu of French delicacies daily.
#1 Airline in the United States: Southwest Airlines
The Dallas-based low-cost carrier takes the top spot for the third consecutive year. Unlike other airlines, Southwest does not charge a fee for up to two checked bags and also serves free non-alcoholic beverages and snacks on board.
#1 Top Hotel in the World: Viroth's Hotel
Located in Siem Reap, Cambodia, this 50s-style hotel includes 35 rooms and boasts a breathtaking pool area.
#1 Top Restaurant in the World: Auberge Du Vieux Puits
This French Restaurant is known for its eccentric decor (like octopus chandeliers) and even more exotic fare, including rotten hen egg with melanosporum truffles on a mushroom and truffle puree. The restaurant operates hostel-style, which means you can stay over if you need a snooze after some fine eats.
#1 Top Airline in the world: Azul
Brazil's largest international airline, Azul offers special features like Economy Extra (seats with additional legroom), Skysofa (a group of four seats in Economy Class that may be turned into a “spacious couch for families, couples, and friends to travel together”), and seats that transform into fully lie-flat beds in Business Class.
