A Source “Close” to Selena Gomez Explains Why She Unfollowed All Those Celebs on Insta

As you may or may not have noticed over the weekend due to everyone absolutely losing all chill, Selena Gomez appears to have unfollowed several accounts on Instagram. Specifically: Zayn Malik (who she was reportedly dating a few months back), as well as Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa (who she’s since refollowed), and Zendaya.

There's been a lot of speculation about why Selena unfollowed this specific group of celebs—ranging from claims she’s feuding with them to claims the unfollowing spree was accidental and done by someone on her team. But an insider has finally spoken out! Extremely vaguely, but still!

Chatting to People, the source (who is apparently “close” to Selena) said, “There are absolutely no hard feelings with anyone she unfollowed.” And...that’s it. No further info given.

As People notes, Selena has a complicated relationship with social media—and back in February, she told Vanity Fair that she (a) stays away from comments and (b) she doesn’t even have Instagram on her phone.

“I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety….I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time,” she said. “The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile. There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually that’s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do, I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.”
