Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery‘s knack for creative takes on bread meets Singapore foodies’ appreciation of (obsession with?) all things Japanese in the Kare Bombe.

If you are a fan of the classic Chicken Katsu Curry, the Kare Bombe was made for you. It takes the characteristic crisp bite of chicken katsu and enhances it with a spicy slathering of authentic Japanese curry. The combination is then encased in a shell of crispy panko breadcrumbs for an additional dose of crunch. A little green wig of nori strips completes the look.

Available for an excruciatingly limited period from 26 Sep to 9 Oct, this is an ingenious take on karepan, a curry bread that is one of the most popular savoury pastries in the Land of the Rising Sun. The short stint coincides with the Matsuri Fair at Jurong Point Mall, a celebration of Japanese street food and traditional Japanese games. Related events run daily from 11am to 9.30pm during this period.

The Kare Bombe is available as part of Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery’s Matsuri Box of 6 (S$32) created exclusively for this event.

Rounding up the pack are 5 other Japan-inspired flavours: Umami of sweet soy caramel, salty shio kombu, nutty brown butter, tangy beni shoga and crunchy tempura; Matcha Goma of matcha custard and sweet, nutty black sesame; Ruby Yuzu Chocolate a custard duo of tart ruby chocolate and fragrant yuzu; Basque Burnt Cheesecake, which is a combination of cream cheese and blue cheese; and Hojicha Caramel Crunch, which is fragrant Hojicha cold-steeped in milk and sprinkled with caramel crunch.
