‘Soul On Bikes’ About African-American Biker Gang Picked Up For Film Adaptation
EXCLUSIVE: Rockmond Dunbar, the director-producer of the feature film Pastor Brown, has optioned Tobie Gene Levingston’s autobiographical book Soul On Bikes: The East Bay Dragons MC And The Black Biker Set about the rise and adventures of the infamous East Bay Dragon Motorcycle Club, the notorious all black Harley Davidson biker gang in Oakland, CA. Dunbar grew up in the Bay Area and has known Levingston, the East Bay Dragons and their exploits since his childhood.
Dunbar, who stars in Hulu’s The Path and also in Fox’s Prison Break sequel, will direct and also produce along with Levity Entertainment Group’s Norman Aladjem and Ray Moheet (Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero, Black Jesus, Hooligan Squad). Maya Dunbar, whose one-hour drama pilot Bad Religion is set up at Overbrook, will adapt the screenplay. It’s the husband and wife’s first collaboration.
This is the second motorcycle gang story to find its way to Hollywood. Fox 2000 also has a project in development about the infamous motorcycle club Hells Angels and its legendary member Sonny Barger who helped found the Oakland chapter in 1957 before becoming the head of what became an international organization.
Souls On Bikes also takes place in the 1950s. Rockmond Dunbar is represented by Don Buchwald & Associates and LEG, and Maya Dunbar is repped by Gersh and LEG.
