Sophie Turner Speaks Candidly About Raising Her Daughters: ‘I Live For My Children’

It’s a rare occasion as a journalist when you must pause mid-interview to remind yourself that you’re speaking to a celebrity, and not a friend. Such is the allure, warmth and relatability of Sophie Turner.

The actor made her screen debut as a teenager in HBO’s fantasy television series Game of Thrones, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2019, and has since starred in hit TV shows including Survive and The Staircase, opposite Colin Firth. Soon, the British star will take the lead as Joan Hannington for ITVX; a six-part crime drama television series titled Joan in which Turner plays the real-life character of a twenty-something jewel thief and devoted mother.

Reflecting on how she could relate to Hannington during filming for the series, Turner admits that she came to realise just how much ‘you will go to the ends of the Earth for your children’.

‘You'll do whatever you can to provide them with the best life you can provide them with. It’s something I could relate to because when I auditioned for Joan I’d just given birth to my second child,' she continued. 'I had that motherly instinct pouring out of me, it was animalistic. I felt that with Joan. Her daughter Kelly was her whole motivation for doing everything she did, and that’s kind of what I spend my life doing. I live for my children. I love it and want to do it – it’s the best thing ever.’

Turner is a mother of two daughters, Delphine (born in 2022) and Willa (born in 2020), who she co-parents with her ex-husband, Joe Jonas. Prior to the birth of her second child, in May 2022 the former ELLE UK cover star told us that the greatest thing in life ‘is seeing my daughter go from strength to strength. We're so excited to be expanding the family. It's the best blessing ever’.

When it comes to the beauty lessons she hopes to pass on to her children, it would seem organisation is key. ‘My mum didn’t really give me any beauty tips – she’s had the same hairstyle and make-up look every day of her life – but when I was younger I’d love going to her make-up station and seeing how perfectly organised it was,' she reflects. 'None of the brushes touched each other. My top tip would be for them organise their make-up because we don’t want any breakouts occurring just because they’re using a brush they haven’t cleaned for 10 months.’

It's unsurprising then that when it comes to summer holidays, Turner goes ‘hard’ on preparation. ‘I’m obsessed with packing cubes,’ she admits. ‘I spend all my money on them and get a new set every month. I always pack a bottle of Saint Germain, my Dyson Airwrap – I can’t do anything with my hair unless I have that – and my passport.’

Known for her porcelain fair skin and icy blonde hair colour, Turner says she's a huge advocate for wearing suncream – her favourite being Riemann P20 Sunscreen SPF50 – at all times. ‘I’m obsessed with it. It lasts 10 hours, you don’t have to reapply and it’s right here on my desk,’ she says, proudly holding up a bottle to camera during our Zoom interview. 'As for blowdrying one’s hair, she suggests putting some oil in it ‘to make it look really fresh, shiny and silkly’.

A FROW regular at Louis Vuitton, most recently seen in May at the 2025 Cruise show wearing a bright pink trouser suit, Turner is no amateur when it comes to dialling up the fashion stakes. As an ambassador for the brand, Turner reveals that she has her eyes and shopping wishlist set on some of the ‘amazing Eighties wide-brimmed hats’ from the recent show. ‘I need to schmooze some people,' she jokes. 'The show was amazing.’

‘I'm in a toxic relationship – it's love hate,’ she adds of her connection with shopping right now. ‘I love it, but I can’t actually stop. It’s an addiction. Each season I put into storage what I don’t need and bringing out what I do, but right now it’s like we’re dressing for summer and winter. It’s a nightmare trying to shop at the moment. I try to be prepared for all scenarios.’

Despite ‘Brat Girl Summer’ taking the lead as the trend du jour, when asked to choose between Charli XCX-launched sartorial vibe and tenniscore, it’s the latter that’s coming out on top for Turner. ‘Obviously with it being Wimbledon right now, I’m very much in my tennicore world, but I’m rooting for the brat girl summer because it doesn’t come along every yeah,’ she says.

Having recently been photographed wearing a blue and white striped pyjama set in the French Riviera, it makes sense why Turner was the perfect choice to star in St-Germain’s new short film, celebrating the alcohol brand’s season cocktail, the Hugo Spritz.

When it comes to hosting this summer, Turner says her essentials will include ‘good music, great drinks – I’ll be drinking St-Germain all summer. It’s a Hugo summer, baby. Even if it’s bad weather, it cheers you up – games, and a good group of people. Just good vibes.’

In the last fortnight alone, Turner has been showing her summer has got off to a fine start, sharing photos of herself and her friends on nights out, enjoying the summer sunshine, and attending her friend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London. ‘On my playlist right now it's Chappell Roan, Charlie XCX, Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay, Frank Ocean and always Taylor.' We're taking notes.
