You can learn a lot about someone based on how they decorate—don't believe us? Just think about the glimpses we get into our favorite celebrities' spaces. Some stars like Jennifer Aniston pack on the spa-like vibes with a relaxing (and expensive) steam shower, while others have (creepy) collections of dolls, taxidermy, and blades. However, Florence Pugh appreciates a quirky home accent that hit its cultural peak well before she was born: the 28-year-old actress is a lava lamp superfan. Yes, you read that correctly.

Pugh recently appeared on BBC One's “Unpopular Opinion” series with We Live in Time costar Andrew Garfield and became absolutely elated when one caller proposed that lava lamps should make a comeback. These groovy fixtures haven't been part of the interior design conversation for decades, but Pugh insists they never fell out of style. “I love lava lamps,” she remarked. “They have some cool new colors as well. They have metallic colors, so you can be really groovy.” (Psst...this disco-inspired one sounds like it has Pugh's stamp of approval.)

Lava lamps were first invented by Edward Craven-Walker in 1963 after he saw a homemade egg timer bubble on a pub's stove. Shortly thereafter, the globby, glowing fixture was regarded as a symbol of the countercultural scene. In fact, Craven-Walker reportedly said, “If you buy my lamp, you won’t need to buy drugs.”

However, like many fads, lava lamps eventually fell out of popularity. Now, they are most commonly found on the shelves of novelty stores. Well, and Pugh's home, apparently. Not only does the actress keep these groovy accessories in her bedroom, but she also claims they're a travel essential. “Whenever I move across to whatever country I'm filming in, I always get loads of lava lamps around the house,” she said in the interview.

While it's easy to write off Pugh's collection as a funky fascination, we're actually starting to see the appeal. The slow movement of the magma inside can bring a meditative, stress-relieving effect to any room. Plus, if your decor style skews more traditional, this quirky addition can provide a cheeky, conversation-sparking accent.

Convinced yet? Yeah, so are we. Pugh even bought a few for the “Unpopular Opinion” host live on the show. To help you find your groove, here are a few lava lamps worth adding to your cart.
