Disney has today announced that Solo: A Star Wars Story will be available on to digitally download from 17 September and on Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD™, 3D, Blu-ray™, DVD, and On-Demand from 24 September. The film, starring Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role, shows the origin story of the iconic Star Wars character originally portrayed by Harrison Ford.

Along with a host of special features, the Blu-ray will include 8 deleted scenes including one that promises to show more of Han Solo’s time as an Imperial grunt before he defects to join Tobias Beckett’s crew.

The deleted scenes are named: Proxima’s Den, Corellian Foot Chase, Han Solo: Imperial Cadet, The Battle of Mimban: Extended, Han Versus Chewie: Extended, Snowball Fight!, Meet Dryden: Extended, and Coaxium Double-Cross.

What’s not yet clear is whether any of the behind-the-scenes featurettes will address the departure of the film’s original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller who were replaced by Ron Howard late in the production process. Howard oversaw extensive reshoots on the film, retaining the director’s credit on the film, with Lord and Miller listed as Executive Producers on the film.

We imagine Disney will sidestep the issue focussing instead of the version of the film that hit cinemas back in May.
