If you thought seeing our favorite new pirates setting off together was the final bit of season 1 in the One Piece live-action series, think again. Netflix had a special surprise up its sleeve with a special scene that you may have missed if you clicked away too quickly. And, trust us, it's absolutely something that you don't want to miss, especially if you're a superfan. And if you're new to this world and want to know what it means for the future of Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates, we got you covered too!
Here's everything you need to know about the mysterious character in the One Piece pre-credits scene.
Wait, there's an extra scene in the One Piece season 1 finale?
There's a chance that you probably tuned in for it considering the fact that it was just after when the logo popped up on the screen again. But just in case you didn't, yes, there's an extra scene that happens right before the credits that you should absolutely go back and watch.
If you're curious, it starts around the 43:30 mark in episode 8 AKA the season 1 finale.
What happens in the scene?
All of a sudden we're stuck in a cloud of smoke when we see a mysterious new character with white hair wearing a white coat and holding several cigars. He also has a copy of Luffy's wanted poster on his desk. But then he takes one of his cigars and lights the whole poster on fire. Super strange, right?! Does he have something against Luffy? No doubt he'll become the big villain if the show comes back for a second season.
But who is the mysterious character in the One Piece season 1 finale?
Warning: Spoilers ahead for those who haven't seen the anime or read the manga!
It's actually Smoker who appears! He's a Marine captain in Loguetown, where the crew is set to head next based on the anime and the manga. He has a big vendetta against pirates and will do anything to make sure they don't ever leave Loguetown.
He is a user of the Moku Moku no Mi or the Plume-Plume Fruit which allows him to control or tune into smoke at will. Even though he's often against pirates, he does sometimes work with them on certain occasions if there is a bigger villain that they need to go after.
What does this mean for One Piece season 2?
It definitely gives us a big hint as to where season 2 will start if the show gets renewed for another season. The live-action adaptation will continue the manga and anime and go straight into the Loguetown Arc where they'll face Smoker. After that, however, is anyone's guess. Considering the fact that season 1 contained several different arcs, we should probably expect more in season 2.
