"Slam Dunk" dunks "Avatar 2" in Japan

21 Dec - If you think that "Avatar: The Way of Water" is able to defeat all other movies as soon as it premiered worldwide, you are definitely not Japanese.

As reported on Epoch Times, while the James Cameron highly-anticipated film has been making waves worldwide, the movie failed to shoot to number one in Japan, as the animated feature "The First Slam Dunk" continues to dominate the weekend box office earnings.

The animated feature, an adaptation of Takehiko Inoue's hit manga of the same name, has now passed the 4-billion-yen mark since it opened in Japan on 3 December.

The movie reportedly attracted 365,000 audiences in Japan in the previous weekend, followed by Makoto Shinkai's "Suzume".

Meanwhile, "Avatar: The Way of Water", which was released in Japan last weekend, attracted 259,000 audiences, earning a weekend box office revenue of 477 million yen.
