Siti Nurhaliza to be the next Biduanita Negara?

5 Apr - The Malaysian government is now in the process of making Dato' Sri Siti Nurhaliza the next person to have the title of Biduanita Negara.

The news was shared by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil at the recent Media Appreciation Event, saying that they are currently in the early phase of granting the honour.

"This matter is still in the process of internal discussion, so it is not appropriate for me to share more details," he said. "But we'll see what we can do to speed up the process."

Fahmi also added that the process takes time as there are many aspects that needed to be taken into account before a decision is made.

It is noted that there has been a proposal to make Siti the next Biduanita Negara, following the late Datuk Sharifah Aini and Puan Sri Saloma.

There are only four people who have been granted the title Biduan and Biduanita Negara, which is Saloma (1978), Sharifah Aini (2006), Ahmad Jais (2009) and SM Salim (2013).

Meanwhile, P. Ramlee was honoured with the title of Seniman Agung in 1978, as his works covered both music and films.
