Sisters Place: Kopitiam serving authentic halal Chinese dishes like CKT, Hokkien mee & yee mee

Discovering a dining spot in the vicinity of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) might seem like a daunting task due to the abundance of choices available. Fortunately, I’ve identified an ideal eatery where you can enjoy a satisfying meal. Sisters Place is the perfect destination, offering delectable kopitiam classics that will undoubtedly satisfy your appetite.

Arriving at 10am, I encountered a parking dilemma. Despite the initial difficulty in finding a spot, considering TTDI’s notorious parking situation, I was fortunate to secure a convenient space close to the kopitiam.

Although parking proved to be a challenge, the eatery was surprisingly empty. I would attribute the sparse crowd to it being a weekday, as most individuals would likely be either at work or school during that time.

I observed that all the kopitiam staff were women. A friendly Chinese auntie, whom I presume is the owner, graciously took our orders. Less than 10 minutes later, our food arrived.

What I tried at Sisters Place

Between the 2 of us, we each selected a single dish, and it happened to be a coincidence that we both ordered the noodle dishes.

I went with a rather expected choice, the Char Kuey Teow Special (RM14.90). This dish featured stir-fried kuey teow noodles, a handful of cockles, a generous serving of taugeh, 3 large prawns, and squid. The key distinction between the regular CKT and the special version lies in the addition of squid.

The aroma emanating from the plate was incredibly alluring, with visible steam rising from the noodles, a telltale sign of freshly cooked CKT. As I took my initial bite, I could distinctly savour the wok hei flavour infused into the perfectly-seasoned noodles.

The tender squid, juicy prawns, and crunchy taugeh formed a delightful combination with the springy kuey teow noodles. The inclusion of finely chopped chilli in soy sauce added a pleasant spicy dimension to the overall flavour profile. I must admit, this is unquestionably the finest CKT I’ve ever tasted.

Next, my dining partner ordered the Hokkien Char with Bihun and Mee (RM9.90). The dish consisted of braised noodles cooked in black sauce accompanied by sambal belacan.

As she took her initial bite, she observed that the noodles were elegantly enveloped in the savoury yet umami sauce. The presence of fishcake and succulent chicken pieces elevated the overall dish. The crispy fried onions garnished on the top contributed a delightful crunch to the chewy texture of the noodles.

The sambal belacan offered just the right balance of spiciness and sweetness. Including this sambal is highly recommended if you want to infuse the dish with an additional burst of flavour.

Final thoughts

If you’re in search of halal kopitiam favourites, Sisters Place is the ultimate dining establishment. They have perfected the classic elements of traditional kopitiam dishes. I highly recommend trying the Char Kuey Teow Special, as it stands as the finest CKT I’ve ever tasted.

I definitely intend to return and explore their other menu offerings, including the nasi lemak and fried rice choices.

Given the kopitiam’s location in TTDI, it’s advisable to plan your visit during off-peak hours to steer clear of the substantial crowds and parking challenges.

This establishment accepts payment in cash, card, and QR.

Expected damage: RM3 – RM20 per pax
