Sire Ma changes name to restart career in mainland China
28 Apr – Former controversial TVB actress Sire Ma is set to make her acting comeback with a new name in a new place.
As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who has been living in mainland China with her husband and daughter Camellia, recently posted a new video on Weibo where she revealed that she was attending a launching ceremony of the new series, "The Orphans of Red Planet" in Hangzhou.
Sire wrote, "Good start! Going back to work. I am excited and grateful. Let's work hard!"
It was also discovered that Sire has changed her Chinese stage name from Ma Choi to Ma Wanying - possibly to mark a fresh start.
Sire started her career in TVB after being crowned second runner-up at the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 2008, and went on to star in several series including "Men With No Shadows" and "Bullet Brain".
However, her career was later marred by her 2014 scandal; after she was accused of being the third party in the relationship between female producer Wang Ziqi and her lesbian partner Laura Lee.
On the other hand, "The Orphans of Red Planet" is based on a sci-fi novel written by Liu Yang. It tells the story of a group of passionate high school students resisting and saving the last hope of mankind when an alien civilisation descends on earth.
