Cinemas in Singapore have been temporarily closed since the 27th of last month.

6 Apr – Last month, cinemas in Singapore were temporarily shut down in compliance with the local government's effort in stopping the spread of COVID-19 on the island nation.

While originally the end date of the closure was set for this 30 April, it has now been extended to 4 May 2020 (Monday).

This was announced by several exhibitors on their social media. So far Golden Village, Filmgarde Cineplexes and WE Cinemas have confirmed the extension of their cinemas' temporary closure.

However, Cathay Cineplexes, Carnival Cinemas, Shaw Theatres, and The Projector have yet to confirm the extension at this point of time.

It is expected that remaining cinemas will follow suit in keeping their doors closed up until early May, so as to prevent a new wave of COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Other ASEAN countries are also similarly shutting down cinemas for the moment to contain the global pandemic. As of today, several cinemas in Malaysia have extended their closure from the middle to the end of this month.
