Going all 50 Shades of Grey, Singapore’s ARTBLOVK Gallery is bringing fetish and kink to their space at the end of this month with an art exhibition aptly titled Turn Me On.

Located at Pearl’s Hill Terrace, ARTBLOVK Gallery provides a platform for Singaporean game and comic artists to showcase their works.

Running from 23 February to 1 April, the exhibition is helmed by Singapore contemporary street artist Erika Tay, who goes by the moniker Erikartoon, and her friends from local art collective Rough Trade Sessions.

The contemporary art show features illustrations focusing on fetishes, so visitors can expect “bouncy stuff, holes, leather, ropes, kitties and all that good stuff”. Needless to say, it is for mature audiences.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore, Tay, 25, said the exhibition will share insights into the nature of art and sexuality at its basest level of appeal through fetishes, embracing sub-cultures that are often misunderstood and unexplored by the greater public”.

Tay said the exhibition’s fetish theme is the perfect choice for their debut show as a collective. “Rough Trade Sessions collective has always shared a common interest in taboo themes, often incorporating hints of sexual elements in our art.”

Other members of the collective include street artist EBAO, who most recently worked on the mural at 369 Tanjong Katong Road inspired by Marvel’s upcoming movie “Black Panther”.

Tay has worked with local gallery and studio Kult and Glitch Studio, an independent studio focusing on 3D design for art collectibles. She has worked on mural paintings and launched her own merchandise brand BloodnFangs.

“Most of us are fans of horror and cult films, which is also something that brought the members of Rough Trade Session together. We are all ready to bring out the darkest side of our imagination and share it with our audience,” Tay said.

She hopes visitors will come to the exhibition with open hearts and minds and let the artists “guide you through the mysterious, bizarre and beautiful world of fetishes manifested in their illustrations”.
