Singapore to host world’s first Chatuchak Night Market outside of Thailand
Miss the open-air night markets of Thailand? Fret not as the world’s first Chatuchak Night Market outside of Thailand greets sawadee to Singaporeans from 7 February to 2 April 2023 at The Grandstand South Carpark on Turf Club Road in Bukit Timah.
The open-air market will be boasting over 180 different vendors from the likes of street food, handicrafts, and antiques. This is such a big event that some vendors will be flying in— on a rotation basis— from the original venue in Bangkok.
Those who aren’t keen on going because of the crowd and parking difficulties can rest easy as there will be around 200 seats placed around the 20,000 square foot festival space. There will also be complimentary parking or free shuttle buses from Botanic Gardens, Clementi, and Toa Payoh to take them to and from.
One of the street food vendors that has been confirmed is the Cha-Chak Thai Teh Tarik. Similarly to what we have here the Cha Chak (Thai milk tea) comes with a tea-pulling performance by the vendor. The Thai milk tea is also not overly sweet and will offer other flavours such as Green Milk Tea, Coffee and Cocoa for S$4.
Another confirmed food vendor is the Thai Roti Prata. This dish is a thinner and yellow version of the normal prata that we are used to. Their signature dish, Banana Roti (S$5) is prepared using butter, topped with bananas and cooked till golden brown. It is then finished with a drizzle of condensed milk before being cut into tiny squares.
Chatuchak Night Market Singapore is sure to break more than a couple of new year’s resolutions but it’s going to be worth it!
