Signs you've been picking the wrong bra

Women suck at choosing the right bras. It’s a fact that even bra specialist of 15 years Paula Svoboda agrees with.

During the media launch of Triumph’s new brand of sports bras, Svoboda gave the lowdown to Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore on what every woman needs to do in order to pick the right bra.

SIGNS THAT IT’S THE WRONG BRA

If the bra rides up your diaphragm, it’s too big for you

If the straps slip off your shoulders, it’s also too big for you

In a good fitting bra, a woman should have leeway to tighten it or loosen it and ensure that she has enough room at the back so that the bra straps are not too tight on the shoulders. You should also be able to put three fingers through the strap comfortably.

SIZES FOR REGULAR AND SPORTS BRAS ARE NOT THE SAME

“A sports bra fits differently from a regular bra because a sports bra is made firmer,” explained Svoboda.

Sports bras are generally tighter and come in different categories to provide different levels of support depending on the nature of the sport you’re doing.

Triumph, for example, has two categories of sports bras, cardio and studio. Cardio is for high intensity workouts and running while the latter is for slower-paced exercises such as yoga or pilates.

Svoboda also advice women to see a bra stylist to ensure that they are fitted properly.

A woman who is sized correctly will leave the fitting room “full of confidence because she is wearing the right size and feeling so much better about herself”, said Svoboda.
