This week, Sky High Farm Workwear—part of Dan Colen’s food-security nonprofit Sky High Farm in Hudson Valley, New York—is launching its new capsule online for the fall/winter season. The collection has been concepted by three fashion industry creatives, including our very own editor-in-chief Samira Nasr, as well as stylist Alistair McKimm and costume designer Heidi Bivens. Proceeds from the sales will go directly back to the farm in an effort to help it provide fresh produce, dairy, and meat to communities in need.

The group collection is titled “El Mundo es Un Pañuelo,” which translates to “The World is a Napkin” and more casually interpreted to mean “it's a small world." In other words, this project, and all that Sky High Farm Universe does, is about the intersections of community, creativity, and nourishment. As Sky High Farm Universe’s co-founder, co-CEO, and CMO Daphne Seybold explains, “We all live as neighbors here in our one small world, and being a good neighbor means helping each other attain what we need to live well, however we can.” She adds, “All of our collections meditate on the serious thematics of the farm’s work, through the adept and oftentimes playful lens of our creative collaborators.”

To wit, in Nasr’s collection, she used her lucky number on the back of two colorways of organic-cotton jersey tees. Also included in her lineup is an upcycled red beanie and a striped button-up made from deadstock Comme des Garçons Shirt fabric, both of which call to mind the go-to wardrobe staples she continues to come back to in her daily life.

While creativity and design and fashion with purpose are at the core of Sky High Farm Workwear’s DNA, it all circles back to the mission, which began in 2011. It was then that artist Dan Colen opened Sky High Farm in Hudson Valley, New York and set out to promote awareness around food security, and the lack there of, in the state. Through various programs and partnerships, Colen grew the visibility and reach of the farm over the course of a decade. In 2016, he gave up ownership and the farm officially became a certified 501(c)3. Together with co-founder, co-CEO and chief marketing officer Daphne Seybold, Colen developed the Sky High Farm Universe, an organization built to prolong, promote, and expand the work at the farm.

Sky High Farm Workwear is a part of that Universe. Each season, the team brings together groups of creatives from the worlds of food, art, and fashion to create capsule collections of garments that, through their sales and wholesale partners, provide funding and support to the farm. For this particular capsule, Sky High Farm Workwear will be hosting a shopping event in New York at the end of the month, in addition to this week’s online drop.

Ultimately, community is at the core of this initiative. If you’re inspired to be a part of this “small world,” shop the new collection, support the farm, and feed those in need here.
