Shirley Kwan: I wasn't trying to commit suicide!

27 Oct - Cantopop singer Shirley Kwan has denied claims that she was attempting suicide when she fell into the waters of Discovery Bay last Tuesday (25 October).

As reported on Mingpao News, earlier this week, Shirley was reported to have been rescued by firefighters and police officers after falling into the sea, although she was later found uninjured and in a stable condition.

However, although the case was first classified as an accident, the police later changed it to "person in distress".

Shirley's manager Marianne, who was seen visiting the singer at the Lantau North District Hospital recently, stated that she was not trying to commit suicide, and that she was just walking in the darkness and accidentally fell into the sea.

The singer also reiterated the same story in a phone interview later on, saying, "I hope you can help me convey [this message]. I am not in distress. I was walking at the beach and fell down."

She also stated that she was drinking some wine with her friend Theresa before the accident happen.

Her statement was different to what was explained by a police source to South China Morning Post previously.

According to the source, Shirley and her friends were walking along seaside Siena Avenue after having dinner at the Auberge Discovery Bay Hotel when it happened.

The source stated that Shirley was unhappy about work and decided to walk down to the sea for a swim. However, when she refused to come back to the shore, they had to call the police to come rescue her.
