Sheryl Crow is passing on her wisdom to music's new generation.

At Friday's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the singer-songwriter, 61, revealed the important advice she gave to Olivia Rodrigo. The pair opened the show by performing a duet of Crow's 1996 hit “If It Makes You Happy," before Crow was later inducted by her friend Laura Dern.

"I said, 'If you can just write down one sentence every day of what happened during that day, because you will someday look back [at] this, and try to remember all the things,' " Crow told Entertainment Tonight of her conversation with Rodrigo, 20.

“The other thing [I told her] is to just stay in the work and stay out of the chatter,” she continued. “That's a major thing.”

Crow said it was "really cool" to collaborate with Rodrigo, who released her sophomore album Guts on Sept. 8. "I mean, you know, I got to sort of lift her up a little bit, because she's got a new record [out]..." she told the outlet. "I know how hard the second record is, the sophomore. You're competing with the success of your first record, and she nailed it."

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, the "Soak Up the Sun" singer called Rodrigo "the real deal."

"She's precious," she said of the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series alum. "She's a great songwriter."

The Grammy winner also noted how Rodrigo appears to be taking her meteoric rise in the music world in stride, saying she "seems kind of unaffected by [fame]."

"She's super cool. [Rodrigo] asked me to do this thing when she came to Nashville. So I texted her and said, 'Hey, would you do the Rock Hall with me?' And she's like, 'I would love to, I would be so honored,' " she added of their latest collaboration.

At the Hall of Fame event, Rodrigo shared her own high praise for Crow. In a special video montage celebrating Crow's career, the "Vampire" singer touched on Crow's unique songwriting talents, calling out a favorite line from "If It Makes You Happy" in which she sings, "Scrape the mold off the bread and serve you French toast again.”

Rodrigo gushed about the experience, writing on Instagram at the time, "Pinch me! sang one of my favorite songs of all time with the greatest of all time @sherylcrow!!!! what an honor!!!!"
