Meghan Markle may have been given the title of the Duchess of Sussex when she married Prince Harry, but one senior royal has another name for the former actress.
According to an article in The Sunday Times, the unknown member of the royal family has branded the 37-year-old the ‘Degree Wife’, because they believe her marriage to Prince Harry will ‘only last three years’.
It isn’t the first time the 37-year-old former Suits star has been forced to weather nasty nicknames.
In December, it was revealed that royal staff had taken to calling Meghan ‘Duchess Difficult’ because of her ‘diva demands’ during her time at Kensington Palace.
After a period where a handful of staff quit their roles at the palace, it was reported that Meghan had ‘ripped up the rule book’ when it came to royal tradition.
That included ‘bombarding’ aides with texts after her daily routine of waking up at 5am, according to the Mail on Sunday.
An alleged royal insider claimed she messaged aides up to seven times a day with ideas about her role, and was so enthusiastic that she organised a number of ‘undercover’ missions to meet members of the British public who are associated with ‘good causes’.
It’s even been reported that the ‘royal feud’ between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton all started because the Duchess of Cambridge didn’t like the way the Duchess of Sussex spoke to members of her staff in the lead up to her and Prince Harry’s May 19th wedding.
“That’s unacceptable, they’re my staff and I speak to them,” mum-of-three Kate is supposed to have said, according to an insider who spoke to The Sun.
In March, it was also claimed staff at Kensington Palace had started calling the Duchess ‘Me-Gain’, because she ‘was dealing with everything herself’, according to Tatler.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have since moved to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where they recently welcomed their baby son, Archie, into the world.
Prince Philip’s word of warning
Yesterday, it was reported that Prince Philip tried to warn Prince Harry off marrying Meghan Markle.
The 98-year-old is said to have told Harry: “One steps out with actresses, one doesn’t marry them”, according to a Sunday Times Magazine article by Sophie Money-Coutts.
His words of warning obviously didn’t do anything to deter his 34-year-old grandson from pursuing 37-year-old former Suits actress Meghan, as the pair wed in a lavish Windsor Castle wedding on May 19th last year.
