Private island life isn’t exactly a thing in New York unless you count this off-grid oasis near New Rochelle.
Columbia Island, a five-acre island paradise less than an hour from Manhattan, is looking for its next owner. Located in the middle of the Long Island Sound, the island is going under the hammer with Concierge Auctions, in partnership with Patricia Anderson of Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty. The picturesque property, once on the market for $13 million, has been totally renovated. Previously, it served as a radio tower but now features a 5,625-square-foot home.

The residence, along with the island itself, is self-sustaining. It sports solar rooftop panels that supply electricity and features a water filtration and desalination system. A concrete seawall protects the island when storms pass through.
The four-bedroom, two-bath house is equipped with a vast great room and an über-modern stainless steel galley kitchen. Elsewhere, a flexible room with corner windows would work well as a sun-drenched artist studio, a screening room, or even a private bar and cigar lounge.
And if one island retreat isn’t enough, the unique offering includes neighboring Pea Island. Just a quarter-mile from Columbia Island, the beachy, low-lying sanctuary is a quick kayak or paddle board ride away. Even though it’s largely undeveloped, that just means there are plenty of opportunities to build whatever you can dream up.
Ready to own not one but two pieces of paradise? The no-reserve digital auction kicked off on October 5th and ends October 18th. If an interested party can’t make it to a private showing in person, the property can be toured virtually.
The auction also includes a philanthropic element: following the sale to the highest bidder, a new home will be built for a family in need through Concierge’s Key for Key campaign in collaboration with Giveback Homes.
