See hired driver's excited reaction to tourist couple's invitation to zipline with them

When Londoners Sering Fye and Monika Bandaraite set off from the UK on the trip of a lifetime to Bali, Indonesia, they had no idea they'd be sharing part of their romantic getaway with a stranger.

Fye booked the vacation as a surprise for his girlfriend's birthday. However, little did she know her boyfriend had an ulterior motive.

“She thought I was just taking her out to Bali for her 30th birthday, whereas I was actually taking her out to Bali to propose to her," says Fye. "I had the whole proposal planned out way before she knew what was going on.”

The marriage proposal went off perfectly, and during their trip, they also took full advantage of Bali's beauty and numerous places of interest. One excursion involved a long drive to a picturesque temple, for which they hired a driver. And when they stopped to eat along the way, the couple invited the driver to join them.

“In our culture, you share everything, especially food,” says Fye. “That's just common courtesy. What you do is if you are around people, whether they are friends or not, you always offer food…We always do inclusion and we always share everything. So that's how the whole relationship started. Because after we offered to buy him breakfast, his whole attitude towards us changed because he saw we weren't just your regular tourists. He maybe saw us more as friends after that because of the gesture.”

Over the next few days, their friendship grew. And even though their driver insisted he didn't want to intrude, the couple happily included him in all their activities, taking him ziplining, coffee-tasting, visiting waterfalls, and sharing several more meals.

“We had a very good time with him,” says Bandaraite. “He was taking us to the best restaurants that he knows. Good quality food. Indonesian food. He knew all these places, and that's what we wanted…We only spent three days of the whole 16 days [with him], so it wasn't a big deal at all. It was just nice to do something for somebody.”
