SINGAPORE - A hawker stall at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 has been offering 140 free cups of soya milk to seniors every Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News, the idea was first proposed by Victor Low, manager of local energy-saving solutions provider L-QUBE, to the stall owner, Mr Chen, in July 2021.

Low and Chen have known each other for more than 20 years, since their secondary school days.

Low's idea was to give back to society by helping low-income seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic. He had noticed that elderly customers typically enjoy drinking soya milk, and subsequently suggested to Mr Chen to give out the drink for free.

Low's company would sponsor approximately S$1,000 monthly for the initiative.

In a Facebook post by user Swee Fong Wong, the stall is said to be Wang Mei Soy Bean at Block 210 at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market and Hawker Centre.
