Road warriors have a new reason to celebrate for the weekend.

National Rental Car recently launched a new promotion where members of their Emerald Club loyalty program can earn double credits on all weekend rentals from April 4 to June 9. The promotion provides the credits for rentals that are picked up on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and returned on a Sunday.

Membership into the Emerald Club program is free, and helps travelers earn credits toward future car rentals. For example, members earn one rental credit for each rental contract, and can earn a free rental day after seven credits. With this double credit promotion, travelers can earn the credits faster.

National Rental Car is known for their "Emerald Aisle" offering where customers can skip the visit to a counter and go directly to the aisle and choose any car they want. Customers register their license information on the website or App in advance of a rental, and their identity is confirmed by an attendant as they drive off the parking lot.

Additionally, for travelers looking to save money on their next rental, National offers "Last Minute Specials" at select locations, so it may be worth visiting their deal page to get the savings. Regardless of the specials, the price of car rental has been steadily declining, and is currently 8.4 percent cheaper than a year ago, according to BLS data

National Rental Cars is owned by Enterprise Mobility, which also owns rental car brands Enterprise and Alamo. National has 305 locations within the United States, mostly at airports and popular tourist destinations.

The new promotion comes in advance of what is expected to be a record year for travel, 40 percent of Americans plan to travel more in 2024, than last year, according to a Forbes Advisor survey.

For those who are traveling, 60 percent of Americans are likely to take a road-trip in 2024, according to a recent survey from Nationwide Travel Insurance.
