SAPPRFT wants Chinese TV shows to have more values

31 Aug - China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) has reportedly made another rule for when it comes to television programmes - that is for productions to not promote a hedonistic lifestyle in its shows.

As reported on ECNS News, the media watchdog recently encouraged TV programmes to avoid spoofing classic works of Chinese literature, and to stop chasing a "Western lifestyle". It claimed that certain TV programmes lacked a positive energy and correct values to be shown to the public.

SAPPRFT also stated that they will not hesitate in suspending programmes and revoking producers' license to air if these shows fail to obey the rules, while shows that continue to make similar mistakes will be banned from participating in award activities.

On 29 August, SAPPRFT also issued a notice to forbid entertainment programs from promoting overnight success, flaunting wealth and hedonism, and encouraging fanaticism for pop stars, riches and Internet celebrities.

It also criticised top stars who are paid excessively to appear on TV shows.
