Sammi Cheng wins Best Actress at 16th CAFF

10 Nov – After failing to win Best Actress yet again at the Hong Kong Film Awards earlier, Sammi Cheng was recently honoured with a similar accolade at the 16th Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF).

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who was awarded the CAFF Best Actress in a Leading Role Golden Angel Award for her performance in thriller film "Fatal Visit", stated that the accolade was a great encouragement for her and a recognition for her acting.

"I hope that the award will also inspire and encourage others. If you have a lot of dreams in your path to filmmaking, you will face a lot of struggles and difficulties in the process. You would also fall many times. But hold fast to your goals and direction, never be afraid of the challenges, and hopefully one day, you will be able to achieve your dreams," she said.

She also thanked her co-stars Tong Dawei and Charlene Choi, as well as the film director Pan Yun Ling.

On the other hand, Donnie Yen was named Best Actor for his role in the fourth instalment of the hit franchise, "Ip Man" - with the movie winning three other awards including Best Producer and Best Director.

Founded in 2005, the 16th Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF), as well as its television equivalent - the Chinese American TV Festival (CATF), aims to promote film and television industry exchanges and cooperation between China and the US. This year's event was held virtually due to the pandemic.
