Who is Sam Querrey? Get to Know the Man Who Beat Superstar Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic's 30-match Grand Slam winning streak was broken on Monday in a heated battle against rising American star Sam Querrey.

The 28-year-old California native described his history-making win – which ended Djokovic's bid to be the first man to complete a Grand Slam since 1969 – as "incredible."

"I'm so ecstatic, so happy. I played the break points well and every time he had a break point I was able to come up with a big serve," Querrey told BBC of Djokovic.

The rising star, who was seeded 28th and ranked 41st in the world, completed the third-round win on Friday after several rain delays. "He deserved to win," Djokovic conceded after the match.

On Monday, Querrey defeated Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-4 on his way to his first grand slam quarterfinal.

"If I didn't win, there would have been a lot of, 'Wow, it was kind of a fluky match against Novak because you didn't back it up,' " Querrey told ESPN after the match.

But he did – and now he's on his way to becoming a household name in America. Here's what you need to know about Sam Querrey:

He had a fan-club growing up

Querrey attended California's Thousand Oaks High School, where he was apparently adored by a group of friends who called themselves the "Samurai Club." His doting pals attended Querrey's matches, shirtless, donning Samurai headbands according to Bleacher Report. After high school he turned down a USC tennis scholarship and headed straight to the pros.

He has been compared to Andy Roddick

After winning his first ATP title at the age of 20 in 2008, the Roddick comparisons started. In 2009, he ranked second in the United States behind Roddick, and he would go on to become the first American to reach three consecutive ATP finals since Roddick, reports Bleacher Report. He reached a career-high rank in 2011 at 17, but over the years that rank has fallen. "I've sprinkled a couple top-10 wins in there, which has kept giving me the belief that, hey, if I keep at it, there will be some wins like this today," Querrey told The New York Times of his performance at Wimbledon this year.

He was on Millionaire Matchmaker

Querrey appeared on the hit Bravo TV show in 2015. "The date was fun, the girl I chose was really cool. At the end of the episode it said we're still together, but actually she never talked to me once after the show was shot. I was sort of peer-pressured into doing it, and I was nervous before it came out, because I thought it would be embarrassing, but it wasn't that bad," he told The Desert Sun in March 2015. Although the former bachelor didn't end up finding love with the help of Patti Stanger, he did make a series of pretty funny vines leading up to the airing of his episode.

He is dating model Abby Dixon

The proud girlfriend, a world-traveler and model, posted a congratulatory Instagram post after Querrey beat Djokovic.

"Sam's reaction to beating Djokovic today was a little more photogenic than mine #uglycry #tearsofjoythough…" she captioned the sweet pic.
