Sam Mendes Won’t Direct Next James Bond Movie

It looks as though Sam Mendes is done with Bond… James Bond.

Appearing at the Hay Literary Festival, the Oscar-winning director confirmed that he won’t be returning for the next ‘Bond’ movie.

“It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it,” he said according to The Guardian. “But I think it’s time for somebody else.”

Of course, Mendes took over the franchise back in 2012 with ‘Skyfall’ – Daniel Craig’s third instalment as the iconic British intelligence agent.

‘Skyfall’ was a huge hit with both fans and critics, but while ‘Spectre’ was also a big hit, some critics felt that the formula was a little tired.

And now Mendes has expressed his desire to work on something new.

“I’m a storyteller,” he explained. “And, at the end of the day, I want to make stories with new characters.”

He also said that he hopes the next director takes Bond in an ‘unexpected direction’.

And that might well happen… depending on who lands the role of Bond.

It’s thought that Daniel Craig will be bowing out of the franchise, with ‘Spectre’ as his last appearance as the quintessential spy. And the race is apparently on to find a replacement.

Current rumours suggest that both Tom Hiddleston and Jamie Bell are in the running for the role, with Hiddleston considered to be a firm fan favourite. But who will land the iconic role?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way, they won’t be working with Sam Mendes…

But as for his replacement, that’s anyone’s guess.
