Salehe Bembury’s Crocs Cypress Duck Boot Makes Its Debut This Week in an Apt ‘Mallard’ Colorway
Salehe Bembury has announced the launch for his fifth original Crocs silhouette, a duck boot that will debut in a colorway aptly named “Mallard.”
The Salehe Bembury x Crocs Crypress “Mallard” mashes up the silhouette of a classic duck boot with Bembury’s signature fingerprint motif. Rather than the standard mix of leather and rubber, the upper with two distinct elements appears to make use of canvas and Crocs’ Croslite foam. Army green canvas delineates a clear split from the dark brown foam, and the sole bearing Bembury’s fingerprint tread pattern then arrives in khaki to highlight the boot’s third distinct element.

Rather than being waterproof, Bembury’s Cypress boot appears to take the approach of dispelling water quickly, as text in the campaign images calls out a “water syphoning system.”
Toro y Moi is the star for the Cypress boot’s first campaign.
The Cypress boot is the third new Crocs silhouette of Bembury’s to launch this year, following the Juniper sneaker and Saru, a strapless hybrid of his Pollex Clog and the Classic Clog. This year’s increase in output comes after the two parties agreed to a new two-year deal in spring 2023 that made Bembury creative director of his Crocs line. Eight colorways of the Pollex Clog had dropped by that point, and with the addition of the Pollex Slide soon after, Bembury and Crocs were recognized for Collection of the Year at the 2023 FN Achievement Awards.
Duck boots, aka Bean Boots or Maine Hunting Shoes, were invented by Leon Leonwood Bean of L.L. Bean in 1911. Because his feet got cold and wet while hunting in his usual boots, Bean decided to add a leather upper to the sole of rain boots. A local cobbler created the first pairs for him, and a year later L.L. Bean Company was formed to bring them to the public.
The Salehe Bembury x Crocs Cypress “Mallard” will release Thursday, December 12, through Bembury’s Be a Spunge website. Pricing for the boot has not yet been announced.
