Safest destinations in the world? You can bet you'll find Singapore on that list, with our futuristic skyline, low crime rates and generally law-abiding citizens. As a Singaporean, I'm proud of living in one of the safest cities in the world, though I may not know the exact ranking. Until now.
According to research by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, Singapore is ranked number six in a list of 15 Safest Cities. There's a separate list for 15 Safest Countries, which, confusingly, Singapore did not make the cut for. But hey, we're not called the Lion City/Garden City for nothing!
The company says its rankings are based on responses from travellers who visited 29 cities popular with business and leisure travellers, the Economist’s Safe Cities index, city ratings of GeoSure Global and the Crime Index of Numbeo.
So if you're deciding on your next travel destination, here are the safest countries and cities by ranking. A word of advice, though: planning a trip to these countries does not mean you can throw caution to the wind. Common sense travel precautions should still be taken for peace of mind.
