Rylance wins supporting actor Oscar for 'Bridge of Spies'

Mark Rylance on Sunday won the Oscar for best supporting actor in thriller "Bridge of Spies," in an upset victory against Hollywood veterans including Sylvester Stallone.

The English actor won his first Academy Award for his portrayal of Soviet intelligence operative Rudolf Abel in the film by Steven Spielberg.

"I want to just say thank you to my fellow nominees. I don't know how they separate my acting from your glorious acting in these wonderful films that you are in," he said.

"It's a wonderful time to be an actor and I'm proud to be part of it," he said.

Rylance's win was the first true surprise of the night, as he bested sentimental favorite Stallone ("Creed"), as well as Christian Bale ("The Big Short"), Tom Hardy ("The Revenant") and Mark Ruffalo ("Spotlight").
